It really comes down to two.

Rule one: the chemistry. We keep a strong list of what doesn't belong in your clothes. No exceptions.

We're proud to keep sixteen substance categories out of your clothes. And we publish every last receipt.

Of every piece we verify,

Here's how we think about fabrics.

Your skin is your body's largest organ. Between heat, friction, and everyday wear, it absorbs what's touching it. Every Method Approved piece is at least 90% natural fiber: plant, tree, or animal-based. The remaining 10% is reserved for performance: stretch, structure, and fit.

Cotton, linen, and hemp are the ones your closet already trusts, and honestly, they've earned it. They breathe, they hold up, and they feel like nothing against your skin (the best compliment a fabric can get). We're into all three, as long as they skip the chemical treatments we're not into.

Nature really said let me handle it. Wool and alpaca keep you at the right temperature, silk feels like nothing, and cashmere brings the warmth without the bulk. We still check how each one's processed, because "natural" is a good start, not the whole story.

These start out plant-based, usually wood pulp, then go through a chemical process to become fabric. That's not automatically a dealbreaker for us. It just means we're paying attention: how it's made, what's in the mix, and whether it's handled responsibly before it ever touches you.

Natural fibers are great, they're just not built for skinny jeans. Denim needs a little stretch, lace needs to hold its shape, and that requires synthetics like elastane and polyester. But they're also fossil fuels turned into plastic that trap heat and shed microfibers in the wash, so we cap them at 10% of any piece, only when the fit actually needs it. A supporting role is as far as we'll let them go.

Angora is natural, sure, but we're passing anyway. It's fallen out of fashion, and there are animal welfare and sensitivity concerns we're not willing to shrug off.

Getting fabric to the exact right color, or the perfect bright white, usually takes a chemical shortcut. We check for the ones that aren’t safe.
